Quilts for those we love...

Do you ever feel like time is flying by, even when you would like to put the brakes on? Everyday?! My oldest child graduated from high school in June and is off to college in a couple of weeks and I am really trying to put on my big girl pants and not be so sad about it.  BTW...no one warned me how sad I would be.  So working on this quilt made me feel a little better because I knew he would be taking it with him to college.  I think that is why we quilt.  A quilt symbolized love, warmth companionship....Ok I am feeling a little sentimental today.

The quilt pattern is actually a Riley Blake free download called Sweet Dreams , I used "Play Ball" because my son loves sports. (It originally used Sweet Nothings fabric).  I made it bigger than the original and added a black border to the top and bottom for added length.  I had the quilter write on the black strips..."Congrats 2011"on the top and Love ...from everyone in the family... on the bottom. This is may favorite part.

My son absolutely loved it and was thrilled that I put Minky on the back. It made my day.

And now summer is flying by and I have had so little time to sew.  But I was able to finish this next quilt.

I am giving this quilt away to a family friend.  She used to baby sit for me long ago and now she just had her very own baby girl. I needed an easy pattern or else I would have never gotten a quilt done, and this quilt is as easy as it gets.  Notice fabric pieces have raw edges and are machine quilted on. The Pattern is by Pie Plate Patterns and the fabric is Sweet Nothings.  I put a fabric label on the back...I have my own stash because we sold out of our labels long ago.

I am putting this in the mail today.

This next quilt I had to show off because sometimes quilts turn out  better than expected. I did not make this quilt, but this line just arrived and the quilt was finished today. (Designed and machine quilted by Jina Barney and pieced by Chris Orton)

Plus, I thought it was time for a give-away. Write a comment about what you have been working on this summer (by next Thursday) for a chance to win a fat quarter bundle of Promenade. I will announce the winner next Friday.  Have a great rest of the summer and find time to sew!
