Project Design Team Wednesday~ Shagg It Rug

Hello RBD gatherers and project makers....
I am pleased to be here today to show you where my mind sometimes wander...
Today or rather weeks ago it wandered into gingham and flannel land!

I have had a love affair with gingham for as long as I can remember, mix that
with Riley Blake's Flannel and you have yourself a winning project.

I chose to make a carpet for my bathroom.

This is what you will need!

Let's SHAGG IT!

Ingredients ( like a recipe, you need the correct ingredients to get the same results)

non grip backing, it is very cheap ( I purchased it at home depot for under 4.00 for
a roll big enough to make a 80 inches x 72 inches  carpet )
a small crochet hook ( I used a 9)
5 yards of flannel, I chose all RBD's

and that is it....
no sewing except for the pieces at the
end to join all your small carpets!

non grip shelving for the backing
cut your first piece about 20 x 18 inches...easier to work with in pieces...

a lovely crochet hook to push through the flannel into the holes!

Cut your pieces into 5.5 " inch length and .25 " inches width
or the size of two gingham widths...

Begin in one corner and push pieces using your hook push one end in one
hole and the other end in another hole..., try and
not sure the word you use in English but go over
one hole to your right, then next row to your left...
see how they are NOT lined up..this will give your rug
a very plush feeling....

You do not have to tie them, they are sooooo snug
they won't even come out in a wash...already tested that ..

See how tight it looks....just keep doing that till you get a desired look.
I did rows of grey, pink, rose, aqua and blue....

I suppose you could have mixed them up too...

Shake it outside to get all those wee threads out....

This peace is completed.....Now cut more non grip and flannel...
and make a few more pieces....

Once all your pieces are done you can use a good twine to sew all the pieces together...
and there you have it SHAGG carpet for any room in your home...

OUT of Flannel and GINGHAM....

Yes my heart was in it....if feels wonderful on your feet
and washes like a dream..

Till we meet again

  9. I love this and am trying to make it right now-but I'm struggling a little with the directions. My strips keep coming out to long on the top-do you skip a space in the backing or weave each strip through twice? I just can't get it to look like the pic-any suggestions?
