TBT Modern: Quilt Construction

20 Nov 2015

Here we are! It's the final day of TBT Modern and we are assembling all of those pretty blocks into one big quilt top! As usual, Bonnie has given us fantastic instructions for putting it all together here. I think I really love the idea of a sampler quilt. As I progressed through the various quilt blocks, I found myself wondering if all of these colors would look okay in one quilt. Each block was uniquely made without thought to how it would coordinate in the finished quilt. The amazing thing is that when it all came together it ... more

Sew a Beanie Hat - Make a slouchy hat in any size with this EASY tutorial - Melly Sews

Hey y'all! It's Melissa from Melly Sews and today I'm going to share how to make easy and quick beanie hats. I used Idle Wild Knits to make these hats. You'll need 1/2 - 2/3 yard because the knit stretches selvedge to selvedge. And these seriously take like 10 minutes each to sew, making them a perfect last minute gift. To make your pattern, first divide the head circumference for the size you need by 4. Then draw a rectangle that is equal to 1/4 the head circumference wide by the height listed below ... more

TBT Modern: Weather Vane

12 Nov 2015

Today marks our final quilt block tutorial for Traditional Block Thursday! I hope you have enjoyed following along and learning a new trick or two from Bonnie. Today, Bonnie shows us how to make this beautiful Weather Vane quilt block. The Weather Vane block pulls together several different techniques she has taught us over the past few months.  For version #1 of this block, I decided to keep the colors simple with a strong contrast. The contrast really makes the center stand out - almost looking like a plus sign. The corners pop dramatically as well, and I think the overall ... more
