Christmas Candy Mini Tree Skirt

Course Instructor - Jennifer Rodriguez of  All Things Belle

Course Materials:
* 5 Riley Blake Christmas Candy fat quarters
* 1 yard of batting
* 1 yard of white felt (backing of tree skirt)
* 4 1/2 yards of double fold bias binding tape

Instructions:

Download the quilt template here.  You will be cutting 11 of the plain skirt pieces and making 10 of the paper pieced present sections.

Cutting plain sections

I have a tutorial on how to paper piece quilt here.  With the number of pieced sections that are to be completed, you may want to create these in an assembly line fashion. I also recommend coloring in the pieced template to help remember which fabric you want in each section.

Coloring in pieced template

There are several sections to this pieced template. You will want to cut each letter group apart. You will then piece each individual section and then sew them back together.

Completed pieced sections

Once your pieced present sections are completed, you will then sew the skirt together. You will sew alternating sections next to each other. Be sure to start and end with a plain section, but do not sew them together - leave the split so that you can place it around the mini Christmas tree.
Quilt sandwich

Next you will make your quilt sandwich - felt back, batting, and piece top. Spray or pin baste the sandwich together. Cut the batting & felt back down to match the top. Quilt as desired.

Binding quilt skirt

Then using the double fold bias tape, bind the tree skirt as desired. I choose to do it on my sewing machine, but of course feel free to do it by hand if you prefer.

Now it's time to place your beautiful mini tree skirt around your table top tree. I hope you enjoy this design as much as I did creating it. We are really loving the fanciful Riley Blake Christmas fabric in our decor this year!

Thank you so much for spending this time with me. I hope that you will stop by my blog, All Things Belle , for more sewing and quilting fun. If you have any questions about paper piecing, please feel free to contact me. It's my favorite way to quilt and I hope that you will give it a try!
