Course Materials:

(4) 2/3 yard fabrics from Daisy Cottage prints

1/2 yard of Daisy Cottage solid (border)

4 yards of mustard yellow bias binding tape

1 yard of white minky fabric

1 yard of cotton batting

 

Two years ago I purchased my AccuQuilt Studio and have been in love ever since. Cutting fabric just isn't my favorite part about quilting, I'm always eager to get the delicious fabric on my sewing machine!

One of my favorite AccuQuilt dies is the chisel. You can purchase this die for any of their three machines. It's far more versatile than you would believe. This adorable baby quilt is made almost completely from chisel pieces. Spend a little bit of time with me, and I will show you how you can whip up this adorable quilt in a day!

You will need to cut 80 chisel pieces with your AccuQuilt system. Now you will sew the quilt together in vertical rows. You can follow the quilt color pattern I have below or improvise as you desire.

  Quilt Scheme

When you are sewing the chisel slanted edges together, you want to match up the raw edges as seen below.

Here are a stack of my vertical rows. With chisel pieces, it is imperative you press your seams!

After you complete all the vertical rows, carefully pin them together. The chisels can stretch and you will need to be mindful of matching the seams.

After the rows are sewn together, thoroughly press.
For the borders, you will need to cut
(2)2.5"x28.5"
(2)2.5"x37.5"

Again - press,press,press..
In quilting it's always important of course, but I found with this chisel quilt it was essential to keep it squared up.
 
Next, baste your back, batting, and top. Since minky fabric is notorious for stretching, I spray and pin basted. I maybe a tad neurotic about basting, but using both methods is almost a guarantee that it will be perfect!
 
Pin the Quilt
 
Quilt as desired; I did a large stipple with clear monofilament thread.
Square up if necessary, but I think you will find that thanks to the Accuquilt cutting and lots of pressing - you probably won't have to.

Bind as desired; I machine bound it with double fold bias tape. I typically machine bind with quilts for babies and children as they will get lots of washing.
 
Enjoy! This quilt is very simple to create thanks to Accuquilt. You can make this in a day or two for the sweet newborn in your life.
