Chevrons at Play by Konda Luckau

Chevrons at Play

42" x 50"

Hi! My name is Konda Luckau of Moose on the Porch Quilts. I fell in love with the tone on tone chevrons and asked Jina if I could do a tutorial just so I could play with the fabric.  Puppy Park by Stephanie Hunt of Bella Blvd was a perfect line to combine with the chevrons to make a fun, quick quilt for a child!

Printer Friendly Instructions

Materials:

1 - 10" Puppy Park Stacker

3 yards Chevron print fabric for the background

1 3/4 yards fabric for the backing

1/2 yard fabric for the binding

Instructions:

1. Select 12 of the 10" square to use in the quilt.

2. Cut each square into 1 - 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" rectangle and 1 - 2 1/2" strip (optional) as shown.

3. Fussy cut the chevron print parallel to the selvage into three 4 1/4" strips and two 8 1/4" strips.

To fussy cut, cut 1/4" beyond the point of each chevron as shown.

If there is a difference between the 4 1/4" measurement and 1/4" beyond the chevron, ignore the 4 1/4" and use the 1/4" beyond the point measurement.  After the extra time taken to fussy cut, you don't want to lose your points!

Cut the entire three yards of chevron print in this manner.

4. Cut the 4 1/4" strips into 5 strips 42 1/2" long.

5. Cut the 8 1/4" strips into 8 - 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" rectangles and 4 - 8 1/4" x 12 1/2" rectangles.

6. Lay out the quilt as shown using 1 - 8 1/4" x 12 1/2" chevron, 2 - 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" chevrons, and 3 - 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" print rectangles. Use one 4 1/4" strip between each pieced row and at the top and bottom.

7. Sew each row, and then sew the rows together as shown.

8. That's all it takes to put the quilt top together!  Quilt it and bind it, and it's ready to play!  The 2 1/2" strips from the 10" squares were to add a little pizzaz to the binding.  In my haste to finish, I completely forgot to add it to mine.  I am disappointed, but not enough to redo the binding!

I did add the extra 10" squares to the backing which added a little pizzaz there!

Happy Quilting!
