Hi there, I am Jackie from Jackie's Art Quilts!
Today I am going to show you how to make this scrumptious looking cupcake pincushion. Warning: You will not be able to make just one. These are the best for gift giving, create with children, and just to have fun and let your creativity go!
Supplies:
2 fat eighths, one for base and one for top ( I used fabric from 'An Apple Of My Eye' and 'Good Life Cottons'
cardboard coffee cup (can recycle a used one, just rinse out and dry)
stuffing
white glue
hot glue gun
trims - from Riley Blake such as mini pompoms, buttons, ric rac
Instructions:
Cut coffee cup 2" from bottom.
From your base fabric, cut out a rectangle 4" x 9". Fold over one 4" end 1/2" and glue down.
Place cup on wrong side of base fabric and trace out the bottom of cup. Cut out 1/8" inside the line. Set aside.
Put glue all around outside of cup, 1/2" on inside of cup from the top, and on the bottom.
Starting at the opposite end of the folded edge, place cup in centre and roll fabric around tucking edges in top and bottom as you go. Smooth out any wrinkles.
Glue circle onto bottom of cup.
Set aside to dry.
From the fabric used for the top, place right sides together. Trace out a 6 1/2" circle. It doesn't have to be exact, I used a dessert plate that was 6 1/4".
Sew on the line, completely around. Trim, and on the back make a 2" slit and turn right sides out.
Stuff circle till about 1 3/4" high, about the height of your favourite donut. Slipstitch the opening closed.
Glue pompom trim around top of cup base and buttons onto side of base. Stuff the cupcake top into the base, letting the sides spill over as desired. Glue button on top.
If you want to add the ric rac, once you have traced your circle, place the ric rac between the two layers of fabric and pin at the edges.
Now go and have some fun!
