Ant-i-Social Quiet Book Page Tutorial

Posted by administrator on Friday, May 9th, 2014

Shhhhh a few of us were busy at creating a Quiet Book page
for the Quiet Book Challenge at Riley Blake Design...
Check out the BOOK pages, ( link above)  many of the entries are pretty amazing...
This will make for a very interesting Quiet Book for sweet young Tots...
Today I brought along a few ANTS to enjoy the event..
What is a picnic without ANTS...?
So not to keep you ANT-cipating any longer...
are you ready to go on a Maze?
You will need this Pattern.
( just print it out on a regular sheet of paper...)
Your design will be perfectly suited for a 10 inch square...
You will a 12 x12 piece of White Fabric, RBD was my choice
( I always cut out much more than I need but you really only need 12  inch square)
2 strips of coordinating fabrics...2 inch wide RBD dots.
1 12 x 12 piece of RBD gingham... Red for the back...
Some black red green thread for Maze and watermelon.
a couple polka dots buttons RBD
some Ribbon RBD
Print and Trace pattern onto a piece of your fabric for stitching
I added 2 pieces of Pellon Bright White Fleece so it would be cushy..
You do not want to stitch any wrinkles into your soft book..
so press all layers before you begin stitching.
Embroidery running stitch for the outline and solid stitches for the maze
Stitch watermelon using some red and green threads and add some french knots for the seeds
You will need 6 black buttons 2 different sizes. ( smaller ones for the head)
stitch on their legs..ants have 6.
Trim your top piece to 1/2 inch and sew on border pieces...

Trim to 10 inch square and sew up all but 1 seam...leave bottom will hand stitch that one..

Turn inside out, press to flatten it and add some wonder clips
or whatever you use for holding down seams...
and slip stitch bottom piece..

So there you have it Ants on a Maze searching for that sweet piece of watermelon...shhhh
they are busy eating, we do not want to interrupt them....

Big thanks goes out to all the AMAZING ANTS that keep RBD working....another lovely idea
from their pretty A-MAZE (ing) MINDS....

  2. Of course this would be one from Madame Samm, I love it, and I even have a small piece of fabric with ants on it that would be perfect to put in the center.
