Kim and Kris reveal how they consistently drive sales and traffic with a fresh approach in creating a Block-of-the-WEEK program. Shop owners are encouraged to attend as you will receive a step-by-step “Quick Start Guide for Shop Owners” to implementing this in your shop. Attendees will also receive the pattern, “Let It Snow!” by Kimberbell Designs. Ideas for promoting in your shop, tips, ideas for customer “rewards” for having blocks done instead of penalties, and more. In addition, attendees will make the popular “hot chocolate block” (mini marshmallows included!) to take back to their shops to help promote the program. #14 Class Title: Embellishing Garments with Trims

Class Description:

Learn how to pull together a look through the use of different trims and embellishments. The class will focus on several techniques - creating custom piping, bias binding, and using fabric as trim as well as layering trims and buttons. You will also learn how to insert rickrack, piping and loopy trims into a seam. Putting these techniques into action, you will create a boutique style embellished shirt.

A sign of a quality garment is one that looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside. You will learn tricks of the trade for finishing lined garments such as armholes, hems and more! Class Description:

Printed and PDF sewing patterns can be overwhelming to beginner and seasoned sewists alike…and many people avoid them all together. But once you have an understanding of the language, terms and skills needed to sew with patterns, you will be well on your way to sewing garments like a pro! You will learn how to read and interpret sewing patterns including large mainstream patterns, independent designer patterns and vintage patterns. Additional skills include tracing and cutting your pattern, and piecing together PDF patterns. Students will leave with a fully cut-out garment and the confidence needed to sew with a printed or PDF sewing pattern.

Have you had your eye on that Retro Travel Bag posted last year on the Riley Blake Blog, but never found the time to make it? Now you can come and construct your own! In this class I'll walk you step-by-step through the process, including how to make your own pattern pieces (so you can make another bag later!). You will also learn tips and techniques for working with piping and laminate fabrics. Choose 1 of 3 different color combinations for the bag:

  • The original aqua chevron with red accents
  • Pink chevron with lime green accents
  • Gray Chevron with Yellow accents.

Interior fabrics will coordinate perfectly with your chosen color combination and will be selected from current Riley Blake Designs fabrics.

The Happy Birthday Banner is a fun way to count down to your child’s birthday. Thirteen pockets - one for each letter in "Happy Birthday" - can be filled with goodies or love notes.
