We hope you all enjoyed your labor day…..and the last bites of summer. I love summer food and am already mourning the end of it, not to mention our long warm summer days. Living in Alpine we are spoiled with fresh produce from the local farmers. In the past few weeks we have indulged the most succulent peaches I think we have ever had…..they are drip down your chin good. Sweet corn is always a favorite. Now the tomatoes and apples are starting to be harvested and my pantry is overflowing with fresh produce. I will share a family favorite recipe of fresh salsa. It is a great way to use all of those garden tomatoes.
8 fresh tomatoes (or 4 Large home-grown tomatoes)
1 bunch of cilantro
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp, chili powder
2-4 serrano or jalapeno peppers (depending on desired heat) I usually remove the seeds.
Put in food processor and blend serve fresh or refrigerate for up to 5 days
My kids will not touch tomatoes, but will eat a gallon of this with tortilla chips.
Well no time to be meloncholy about the change of seasons and actually my husband looks forward to this time of year. I am just going to enjoy the present and I will write about our four new lines tomorrow.
